How to Build a Simple Tallow Skincare Routine

Out of necessity, or laziness, my skincare routine has always been as minimal as possible. When I was younger I didn't even think about my "routine" and by the time I had kids I did not have the time or energy for anything complicated. Now that they are older, I am still busy just not in the fire under your pants kind of way, and I still appreciate being ready before anyone notices I was gone. Most mornings I splash my face with cold water, lightly pat dry, and apply my Glow Day Cream. Three mornings a week I add 5 minutes with my NuFace. That is it. Evenings are almost the same. Warm water to loosen my mascara, Glow Night Cream, and occasionally my tallow soap on nights when I want a proper cleanse. Simple has always worked best for me and my skin has never looked better for it.

Somewhere along the way for many people skincare became a ten-step process with a waiting period between each product and a shelf full of things that all promise to do something slightly different. If that routine works for you, great. But for a lot of people it is overwhelming, expensive, and frankly unnecessary. The skin does not need complexity. It needs compatibility.

A tallow-based routine is built around exactly that philosophy. Fewer products, better ingredients, and a routine simple enough that you will actually do it every single day. Here is how to build one.

Start With the Right Cleanser

Cleansing is where most routines go wrong before they even start. Conventional foaming cleansers rely on surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate to create lather and remove oil. The problem is they remove too much oil, stripping the skin's natural barrier and triggering overproduction of sebum to compensate. Over time this creates the cycle of tight, dry skin followed by oiliness that so many people mistake for their skin type when it is actually a product-induced response.

Tallow soap cleanses without stripping. The saponified tallow retains enough of the original fatty acid profile to leave the skin barrier intact after cleansing rather than depleted. For most skin types one gentle lather is enough. For very dry or sensitive skin, water cleansing alone in the morning with tallow soap only in the evening is worth trying.

The Morning Routine

Morning skincare should be simple. Your skin has been resting and repairing overnight and does not need much intervention. Here is what works:

Step 1: Cleanse

Rinse with cool or lukewarm water. If your skin feels balanced from the night before a water rinse alone is often enough in the morning. If you prefer a light cleanse use your tallow soap and rinse thoroughly.

Step 2: Moisturize

Apply a small amount of whipped tallow or your Glow Day Cream to slightly damp skin. Warm it between your fingertip or hands, or apply directly its whatever is easiest. A pea-sized amount is enough for most face applications. Give it two to three minutes to absorb before applying anything else.

That is it for morning. Two steps. Less than two minutes. Your skin has everything it needs to start the day.

The Evening Routine

Evening is when your skin does its most active repair work. What you apply at night has more time to absorb and work without the interference of sun, pollution, or makeup. This is the routine where the right ingredients make the biggest difference.

Step 1: Cleanse Thoroughly

Evening cleansing matters more than morning. Use your tallow soap to remove the day. Take your time. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry gently.

Step 2: Treat Any Problem Areas

If you have dry patches, irritation, or any area that needs extra attention apply the Tallow and Honey Repair Balm directly to those areas. The combination of tallow and honey delivers both lipid-level barrier repair and the antimicrobial and humectant properties of raw honey exactly where your skin needs it most.

Step 3: Moisturize

Apply your Glow Night Cream or whipped tallow to the full face and neck. Evening application can be slightly more generous than morning since there is no makeup or SPF going over it. Your skin will absorb what it needs overnight.

Where the Salt Scrub Fits In

The nourishing salt scrub is not a daily product. Two to three times a week is plenty for most skin types, once a week for sensitive skin. Use it in place of your regular cleanser in the evening. It removes dead skin cells, improves circulation, and leaves skin ready to absorb your moisturizer more effectively. Because it is tallow-based it does not leave skin stripped the way conventional scrubs do.

The Full Organic Violet Routine at a Glance

Morning: Water rinse or tallow soap. Glow Day Cream or whipped tallow.

Evening: Tallow soap cleanse. Tallow and Honey Repair Balm on problem areas. Glow Night Cream or whipped tallow.

Two to three times weekly: Nourishing salt scrub in place of evening cleanse.

That is the whole routine. Every product earns its place and nothing is there to fill a step.

Tips for Transitioning From a Conventional Routine

If you are switching from a multi-product conventional routine your skin may need an adjustment period of two to four weeks. This is normal. Skin that has been stripped regularly by harsh cleansers and propped up by silicone-heavy moisturizers needs time to recalibrate its own oil production and barrier function. During this period you may notice temporary changes in texture or oiliness. Stay consistent and give your skin the time it needs to find its own balance.

The fewer ingredients in your routine during this period the better. Strip back to the basics and add products back only once your skin has stabilized.

I have never had a lengthy routine but I have definitely been tempted by them. I just could never understand how anyone spends that much time applying products in one sitting, its too boring. My entire routine takes a minute or two and my skin is consistently clear and happy. That is the only review I need.

The Bottom Line

A good skincare routine is not the most complicated one. It is the one that works consistently, uses ingredients your skin can actually use, and is simple enough that you never skip it. Two minutes morning and night with the right products will always outperform a ten-step routine built on ingredients your skin has to fight against. That is the whole philosophy behind Organic Violet and it is the only routine I have used for years.

Even with a routine this simple it can feel like you are missing something. I promise you are not. If you are nervous about switching, start with one product at a time. Try the Tallow and Honey Repair Balm on any spots that need a little extra attention and see what your skin does. My guess is you will start wondering what else you no longer need. That is when you will finally see what your skin actually looks like without everything it has been fighting against.
